HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT FRAMENovember 18, 2019
Acquiring a new piece of art is exciting. But whether it’s a piece from a newly discovered emerging artist or an unexpected snapshot of the family, art isn’t finished until it’s framed. When choosing a frame, there are two important considerations to make: What are you framing? Where will it hang?
Read our guide for choosing the perfect frame for your photos and art and start framing online today!
1. What Are You Framing?
Subject and Style
When it comes to framing photography and modern art, it's a safe bet to choose a simple, white gallery-style frame or a sleek timber frame. If you're framing wedding photos consider a silver frame or a gold frame for something a little more special. When framing certificates, a classic black frame is a good choice.
The frame should never compete with the artwork or photo inside. Sometimes a large mat board can make a cool visual statement when coupled with a small piece of art, but for regular photos and art prints, usually keeping the frame and mat board slim is best.
There’s no need to perfectly match the colour of the frame to the colours in the artwork, though they should complement one another.
Where It Is Going?
Make sure the frame fits in with the overall style of the room. Framer has a collection of beautiful frames to suit every interior style - from coastal luxe style frames and hamptons style frames, to modern farmhouse frames and boho style frames.
Before choosing a fame, consider the colour of the wall it will be hanging or leaning on. Are there architectural details? The frame needs to work not only with the art, but also with the walls surrounding it.
Alone vs. Grouped. Grouped artwork looks best when they are either framed exactly the same (for example with all white frames) or with deliberate variety. Just pick one way and commit to it!
